Over half of UK employers adopting EV salary sacrifice schemes to meet environmental targets

According to a recent report, over 52% of UK employers have introduced electric vehicle (EV) salary sacrifice schemes, citing environmental targets as the major strategic driver.

Positive response to mounting pressure

UK businesses are under increasing pressure to demonstrate measurable progress towards their sustainability targets, and these salary sacrifice schemes show that environmental considerations are becoming integral to corporate decision-making.

Almost a quarter of employers surveyed said the schemes were introduced specifically to reduce Scope 3 emissions, such as those related to employee commuting. Additionally, two thirds said the availability of a CO₂ cap was an important factor when choosing a scheme provider, reflecting the need to quantify environmental performance.

Benefitting both business and staff

With scheme providers including options such as carbon offsetting for exhaust emissions and grid-based EV charging, businesses are benefitting from practical support in their attempts to hit net zero goals.

Employers also report positive employee engagement, while employees state that the schemes’ benefits are genuinely valued and meet their needs – suggesting that sustainability is no longer just a corporate nice-to-have but a defining part of the employee experience.
