Only one in four fleets are accurately measuring CO2 output

The recent European Fleet Emission Monitor, which surveyed 740 fleets across 12 countries, revealed that while 43% of European companies are tracking fleet emissions – up 1% on 2024 – fewer than one in four are doing so effectively. In this age of advanced tech and AI, the findings show that many companies are still figuring out their digital infrastructure and capacity to manage increasing data. In fact, around 42% of companies are still dependent on fuel-based estimates while many still rely on manual processes and legacy systems.

Sustainability front and centre

The survey did demonstrate, however, that in the UK in particular, sustainability is one of the most important aspects in fleet decision-making, with two-thirds of companies confirming they have set concrete CO2 goals for the future. Many of these businesses have dedicated sustainability departments and place great importance on tasks relating to carbon reduction.

Better data for a brighter future

Clearly, the opportunities that advanced fleet management tools and AI offer are boundless, not only for CO2 output analysis. Fully utilised, both could add significant value to reporting and decision-making but right now the industry is not keeping up with the technology. Progress is being made, but there’s still plenty of work to be done to help companies make better informed decisions.

The future, however, is promising. Advanced vehicle connectivity, AI and carbon reporting are expected to become ever more crucial in the next 12-24 months.
