Fuel cards – another thing to manage?

09 September 2019

Often when you’re thinking about changing an existing process, like how you pay for fuel for your cars, vans and trucks, it’s hard to decide if the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Infact your pros and cons list might look something like this:

Pros:

I’ll save money on my fuel spend.

Cons:

It’s not clear if the cost of the fuel card will outweigh the savings that could be made.

We’ll have to learn to administer a new process.

We’ll have to get the drivers on board with a new way of paying and reclaiming for fuel.

With a list like this, a new fuel card can easily start looking like more trouble than it’s worth. The problem is, a list like this wouldn’t be entirely representative.

No Charges!

You see, there aren’t charges on all fuel cards. Silvey Fleet fuel cards don’t charge to set up a fuel card account and you don’t have to have a big fleet either. So, the only money you have to think about is the money you’ll save purchasing discounted fuel at the pump.

Admittedly, a new fuel card to replace your existing process does mean change.

But not all change is bad.

Less admin time

Instead of a manual process of recording and reimbursing fuel expenses for individual drivers, you will receive an HMRC compliant report that links with your expenses and VAT system.

What about those fuel station sausage rolls and coffees your drivers might try and include as they pay for fuel? You have complete control over what gets spent on a Silvey Fleet fuel card and can even set daily spending limits which allows or restricts such purchases too.

A fuel card makes your drivers’ lives easier too. They won’t need to keep and submit receipts or wait for expenses to be paid, plus with a range of national networks to choose from we can make sure your drivers don’t have to go out of their way to refuel. Your dedicated account manager will contact your drivers to let them know how their new fuel card works and where’s best for them to fill up to help your drivers get onboard.

So, perhaps your pros and cons list could look a bit different with a Silvey Fleet fuel card; you get better control over your fuel costs, at the same time as tying up all your fuel related expenses in one process.

What our clients say

We now have a solution that provides long term reductions in fuel expenditure, plus an active team of supportive account mangers helping us to minimise disruption and manage any resistance to these new procedures.

Simply by streamlining processes and improving the quality of management information, we have seen a reduction in fuel misuse and time spent on resource intensive administrative tasks.

Just received our first invoice from Silvey Fleet and I'm very happy. I've compared it to a competitor's invoice and the difference in savings is fantastic!

Taking control over fuel expenditure helped reduce our costs by encouraging our sub contracted hauliers to use fuel cards.
